The Fritz-Haber-Institute (FHI) in Berlin-Dahlem is one of the most renowned institutes within the Max Planck Society (MPG), Germany's organization for basic research. At the FHI, scientists from all over the world are engaged in fundamental studies in the field of chemical physics at interfaces and surfaces, catalysis research and molecular physics.


The NOMAD (Novel Materials Discovery) Laboratory at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society (th.fhi.mpg.de) is looking for a


Computer scientist (m/f/div) for technical support in Information and Communication Technology (part-time 50%)


Your Tasks

You are part of the NOMAD team at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society and the associated European Center of Excellence (nomad-coe.eu). You will work with world leading scientists and actively shape cutting-edge materials-science research with a focus on big data and artificial intelligence. You will ensure the operation as well as optimization, setup, and expansion work of the hardware and software environment. This includes the planning, implementation, installation, and operation of networked IT systems, including planning and installation of hardware, system applications, databases and software systems (together with additional experts). In addition, you will be responsible for the administration of workstations and PCs as well as numerous web services. Likewise, the creation and editing of media (graphics and videos) are part of your tasks.

Voraussetzungen

Necessary knowledge and skills

  • Computer science or technical computer science or equivalent skills and experience
  • Excellent knowledge of Unix and Microsoft based PC systems and workstations and their maintenance
  • Administration of hardware and various software as well as web applications
  • Knowledge of HTML and Python
  • Knowledge of common graphic programs and video editing software
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently, organizational and teamwork skills,
  • Communication skills in the cooperation with scientists, service orientation and reliability



We offer

We offer a state-of-the-art and beyond working environment within the Max Planck Society, a pay scale classification (TVöD Bund) up to wage group E 11, and broad development opportunities as well as very good opportunities for further training and flexible working hours. Your place of work will be Berlin. The position is initially limited to 2 years, with the possibility of an extension.
